During Tennessee’s Jim Crow era, Black People of Knoxville were allowed entry into Chilhowee Park one day a year - the 8th of August. In this special, the city’s Black elders recall the excitement of those days and discuss the meaning of a freedom celebration in the midst of segregation and second-class citizenship - while also expressing hope for the future.
