Marin Alsop has accomplished many firsts in her career as conductor in a male-dominated profession. She was the first woman to serve as the head of a major orchestra in the United States. The first, and only conductor, to receive a McArthur Fellowship. And the first female conductor of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms...to name a few.
