Manitowoc-Two Rivers: Vits' College of Aluminum Knowledge

Clip: Special | 7m 53s

The aluminum manufacturing era starts with the efforts of Joseph Koenig and Henry Vit.

After seeing the popularity of aluminum novelties at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Joseph Koenig set up a shop in a corner of the Hamilton Holly Wood Type factory, and learned how to manufacture combs from this little-known "mystery metal." In Manitowoc, Henry Vits closed his tannery business and with two of Koenig's workers, formed the Manitowoc Aluminum Novelty Company. (Part 6/8)
