In 1836, Texans, most immigrants from the U.S., rebelled against Mexico. A Mexican army arrives in Texas to put down the rebellion but is defeated at the Battle of San Jacinto. Ten years later, the U.S. annexed Texas, and the two countries became embroiled in a border dispute. U.S. and Mexican military clashes signal the beginning of war.
