We are glad to be here.
We're glad you could be with us.
The class Girl State Championship.
I'm Dave Cheever, along with Karen Magnuson coach.
We couldn't ask for better here.
We've got two teams.
They've seen each other briefly in the preseason.
But this is one for the global.
They're excited.
We're excited.
Yeah.
At this point, every game that you've played doesn't matter at this.
This is a state game, and it comes down to one game that you want to win, to win at all.
And we've got outstanding storylines for this tight contest tonight.
We've got a nice crowd in here.
This is going to be one that that we've been anticipating all week.
We don't care if it snows.
We'll stay here until it's over.
Everybody's excited for this one.
We have both teams here tonight with familiar coaches.
Greg Chesley has done a great job with the Lawrence Bulldogs.
Sam Farrell, it's been a familiar spot.
But the odd thing is, is neither one of these teams is one to go bowl.
Well, you're right.
I know for Sam Farrell, he's been there.
What do you say?
14 years and being able to have a chance to come in with this group who's known for so long to win that that's a big accomplishment for them.
Jim Barnes is here with us tonight.
He had a chance to catch up with San Pedro I thank you very much, Dave.
Okay, Coach Farrell, I'll tell you what.
This is what you thought could happen all year.
You were the top seed in the Southern Tournament.
Now you're here.
Must feel great.
Oh, feels great for the kids.
I mean, it's all about them.
They've had a great week, a great week of practice, great week, spent time together.
So any extra time I can spend with them works out well.
And we get to play a game, too.
So I'll take it although most of all, already, it's the first time they've seen the Dragons.
Tell them that I'm telling about your style to them, but your tempo.
Yeah.
I mean, we're a scrappy group.
Anybody can score and lead us in scoring in any day.
And it's just great teamwork, and they live for defense.
So I hope I hope to see our defense out there tonight.
All right.
Very good, Coach.
Good luck.
Thanks.
All right.
Back to you.
All right.
They got here.
It wasn't easy.
They had to climb their way through Westbrook, Falmouth and Gray-New Gloucester in a Southern Maine tournament.
That I think they demonstrated over and over again just how tough they've been all season.
Oh, yeah, they won by an average of like 20 points against all of them, but came back and won well against Gray-New Gloucester and they had lost to them by one in the regular season.
So I mean a great tournament for them.
Yeah.
And the only other time they lost us to Oxford Hills and nobody is going to apologize for that.
And maybe take a look at it right there as well.
You see who they who they defeated to get here.
And when you look at S1, S1, S1, that's the southern region, the number one team coming out of the South, the Brunswick Dragons.
Then you look across the Lawrence Bulldogs, they had a heck of a final and Greg Chappell is going to talk about that against the Gardner Tigers, but defeating Erskine Academy, taking on a good Cony team, they have they have proven themselves, especially to get here tonight.
Yeah.
And again, that they both those games they won by close to 30 or over 30 points but then had a great game against Gardner winning now one by about seven.
So they've been tested So it'll be interesting to see who's who locks in their pace for this game and what happens.
And Brother Baynes got a chance to talk to Greg Chesley as well.
All right, Coach Chesley, I'm sure you're still coming down from a big high against that win over Gardner in the regionals.
But how was it?
Was it hard to kind of get the girl settled again and back to practice, you know, a little bit, you know, Friday night against Guy?
I know it's pretty exciting.
Come down from that big win in this week's Been Crazy you know, girls on the radio, me on the radio, you know, media everywhere, snow moving practices around, but they're pretty locked in and focused and we've been able to get in the gym and get after it.
All right.
Now, a lot of this audience we have tonight, the first time we've seen your bulldogs.
Tell us about your tempo.
Tell them what you're looking to do.
Oh, well, we're looking to push the ball you know, most nights we feel where we have the advantage in athleticism.
Oh, man, we look to get out and run.
All right.
Very good.
Well, good luck to you tonight.
Thank you.
All right.
Let's find out who these kids are.
Let's go to the public address system and Mike Hopkins Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Augusta Civic Center for the Class A girls state championship game between the Southern Maine Champion Dragons of Brunswick High School.

Mark Detail.
Oh, present.
Oh, oh.
Say, can you see by the dawn's early light what so proudly we believe that this was the last name who was to rise and rise doors throw the pebble the fight or the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming Heather his Robbins to the best singing gave proof through the night that no was still there.
Oh, say does the Star Spangled Banner yet wave or the left no and oh well the red gray I think are about 5000 people here with goose bumps.
I was amazed he had my hand over my heart was beating so fast and oh that great moment.
That was fantastic.
What an environment tonight look at it.
It's packed.
First game of 20, don't go away.
Foul mouth brewer the boys game is coming in after this one but we have 32 minutes of stop time ball to come up here and two worthy teams Karen I couldn't be happier Oh I think they're both going to be fun to watch I think they match up well they're going through heights and you've got three kids on both sides are 58 and taller to six footers.
They both can shoot they both can play inside their pace might be just a little bit different, but their strategy is going to be fun to see.
The only distinction that we could look at is there's an age difference, if you will.
Yeah.
The Brunswick team is a little bit younger overall, but we're going to see a couple of the kids out here tonight.
It's going to be fun to watch them compete for these next 32 minutes.
Yeah, we're going to see a freshman for Lawrence.
Oh, he's talking about a little bit.
Yeah.
All right.
Ready to take the tap.
Maddy Warner number 42 in black, three pull him, pull in, wins the tap.
Hope Bouchard in the front court alley Higgins finds Bouchard he'll be testing, testing, testing.
The three said they saw they saw each other briefly in the preseason before either coach had a chance to say, you don't have anything in at that point.
You're trying to get in shape.
And see what people can do individually.
But the word was already out.
Yeah, these teams were going to be good.
So you might say, Hey, what do we got good patience here by the Lawrence Bulldogs nice high score set takes the three rims out the block.
45 seconds for that first love.
But that was a great look and you certainly want her to shoot the ball.
Dakota Shipley on the rebound We know there's a three that will stretch the defense for free.
Shipley steps outside and the six footer makes it looking to fire back Elizabeth from it doesn't go Lawrence with the rebound Higgins back to Bouchard Bouchard taking a look inside Sten comes again to Higgins Inside Poulin Portland turns banked that bit it from strong Alexis more and comes down to the loose ball Here we have Kelsey Carleton This will be a fun matchup to watch throughout the night.
The two point guards Morant flips the ball to the sideline almost out scoring saves it over there and back to Carleton.
Carleton Fine Shipley Come to Werner Werner holding high Wants to take it inside Puts it up And in 09 Werner What a great job Being patient Facing the rim Little body tactic No foul called Got a sense of the tenor of this thing early on Bouchard down the lane puts up the floater No good little strong Shipley sends Carlton away Carlton frontcourt back to dooring during Shipley top of the key And looking inside to Werner throws the ball away Higgins is going to race for it They keep a great hustle and it's an up you know that's a tough call at that point you could let it go out you get it but they also saw an open rim run, right?
Like they get it there.
That could be their first two points so great hustle by both players wanted to make sure they made a play.
Carlton looking to set Brunswick offense in motion comes to Shipley excuse me to Matty Warner more and shot to Strong who shot up the right side on the Gallagher here agreed Chesley tell Jim Baines he wants to run He wants to get out and carry the He's three point shot attempt front rim Both teams are getting great looks there's another one and three official one for three I think you're going to see that open up more for both teams are getting good looks it's just the first couple of minutes are a little nerve wracking.
Shipley crossed to the download of Shipley.
She keeps it in bounds.
No, it's the great cut.
I have seen them run that in a couple other games and they get great options off of that.
But Brunswick drops back on defense.
That's one of your specialties, trying to figure out, All right, how are these girls going to set up on a stop?
Lawrence Lawrence having a hard time at the moment.
We know it's only 53.
Bouchard again, four, three.
No strong rebound inside by three, pulling the gray rebound and that's what you're going to have to do.
You're going to get some looks outside, but you got to make sure that you crashed the boards.
And she did that very well right here.
Maddy Warner.
Yeah, you can see right there across the arm a Portland shooting to Portland.
Had a great regional one of the six seniors here on this Lawrence Bulldog team.
She did a great job stretching out the defense.
She was always at the top of the key to bring Gruber out and had some great looks.
That game one point game early.
Kelsey Carleton takes a look.
She's nothing to surprise.
Her front court tries to get away from.
Hopefully she comes to more and more and goes left side leaves it off adoring who take a three more and drives baseline spin dribbles inside Paul knocked away Here comes Bouchard on the run A little too strong Bouchard on the put back up and in here's the rebound and you're talking about earlier from her Maddy provost in the game for the Bulldogs Missed the layup but the strong rebound Greg Chesley was telling us before the game Bouchard is probably the top ranked kid on every stat including rebounds shooting rebound Sarr right there great isolation inside to no good she gets the loose ball puts it up and is going to be fouled by Higgins that was great defense missed out the box out but a really good isolation on the block okay three 40 to go in the first quarter Catherine All right things settle down a little bit are they still charged at this atmosphere.
No.
I mean I think at this point they're starting to settle down, but you're seeing the line.
The pace is different right?
You see, Lawrence in the last minute or so have really pushed it then in a fast break.
So seeing them get some more transition takes a lot of discipline for a team that wants to slow down.
How do you get a kid to stop running?
Yeah, you don't really want to do that, Higgins.
Provost Bouchard, that's a great closeout by Brunswick they move so quick.
Higgins for three.
Yes.
Good shot, Alley.
Higgins.
Happy how much you could do on that?
I mean, they had great rotations they were moving consistently in that zone and just you're going to have to hit some big outside shots.
And there's another one that move the ball, find the open player.
That time it was Allie Higgins during down low to Werner Werner wants to go goes baseline gets double team closed off there mooring flips it back to dooring during 43 loose ball picked up Nice play by Brie Pullen Both teams are fighting so hard underneath for those rebounds Bouchard great game flips it pro goes for three Yes there's that freshman big shot by a freshman coming in Sam Farrell wants a timeout in the Lawrence Bulldogs fans across the way standing as one Brunswick timeout Maddie promises of 57 freshmen you saw Oh I saw her once this summer and it took 5 minutes to realize she's going to be so good if she continues to develop fully come up how strong the line yeah during it for season number six of the high school quiz show me returns on March 23rd put it on your calendar it's got time to do that and tune in to watch schools from around the state match wits compete for the $1,000 prize this season schools from Fort Kent to South Berwick will battle it out for the championship all starts Thursday March 23rd at 8 p.m. on Maine public television 12 five our score awards strong start good outside shooting yeah well but they're setting pace right now you're seeing a lot of you know attacking the paint real quick before they set up their zone and kick into corners starting five stays on the floor for the Brunswick Dragons.
Kelsey Carleton on the dribble approaching half court Hope Bouchard will meet her there Carleton comes right side waits for Shipley goes down low to Warner Werner takes a look Clips outside the Morin out high three Yes man Alexis more and morning youth will be served Another shot for hitting big shots in the biggest moment Provo finds Poland Poland look long comes back around from it Bouchard promos goes baseline keeps the ball in bounds can't bounces it on the apron It'll be a Brunswick dragon ball under 2 minutes to play first quarter Sam Farrell calls for play.
Kelsey Carleton relays it to her teammates as you would expect Well schooled teams here boring took a look at Gromit Put it up no good down to the rebounded clue and Poland had to Bouchard Higgins keeps it in bounds promos Oh Christ a little bit inside Shipley intercepts that pass She had the right look if she could have just lobbed it a little more.
But she has great eyesight of the court Shipley a good presence of mind and those long her yeah crosscourt Werner takes it to the hole up no good cross down to the rebound for the Lawrence Bulldogs minute to go first quarter and there's a foul and during we were talking before the game Karen and you said this is a kid who can handle the ball really well we know how Bouchard can but as a freshman she's so funny and you're watching her right and she had that last turnover but she had a great look like she doesn't play like a freshman.
She's got great confidence to try to create things for her team.
I just I've always enjoyed watching her.
Mattie Morrison in the game, quick release her brush with her face and another 343 shot that right where the ball entered her pocket didn't didn't take time for that great luck that was a set play off the inbound Dakota Shipley a little wide on the three Bouchard another rebound another dribble up court picked up by Carlton Pro Bowls for three no Shipley down to more and more and takes a look besides she'll take it in around the rim No good from it down on the loose ball for the Bulldogs Bouchard gets out of the double team Great handle takes a look Hagans for three throws weakside rebound picks up the dribble finds Provost Finds Bouchard rather Lawrence reset It's got us got a fire She's running out of time And first quarter ends strong opening 8 minutes for the Lawrence Bulldogs 15 eight The Bulldogs over the Brunswick Dragons in the state championship girl's class eight game Don't go away.

Alexis Morin with the ball comes to Werner Werner trying to find some room back to mourn for three high rebound Lake Brunswick I mean they're getting a lot of open looks right now but Bouchard you see her wanting to force the play Yeah well she wants that pace.
That's what Lawrence wants to do.
They want to get up and down as fast as they can.
She's going to see if there's room down the lane.
Oh, good.
Take away.
Nice defensive play by Kelsey Carleton.
Shipley picks it up, Carleton comes down to loop in the morning Back to Carleton for three It's short Werner on the put back up and in Maddy Warner I'll tell you they've always had one or two that have crashed that board every single shot and they got the opportunity right there deep three Great rebound Elizabeth Dumont on that Carleton Werner Werner steps around Nice play and one half the basket by Maddy Werner I think we're going to have Nadia Morrison on the foul 22 We have all the number 22 They do such a great job of catching high post spacing So then that has to engage the defender and they able to get to the rim and honestly the only difference in that first quarter they missed a couple of those they missed two or three of them and you know, that's a two point game and now they've made a couple and now it's back to a three point game.
Sam Carroll saying, Come on guys, we have the advantage inside Maddy, go to work.
Yeah, those will follow the ship.
We are doing that.
Dumont from the side.
No good.
Werner with the loose ball weakside finds Carlton again she slows the pace has 32 second She's such a good floor General She gets her team set.
She calls out what they want to run and nice steal by Morrison finds pro those programs looking for Bouchard Bouchard frontcourt 01 for the cutter I think both teams are just figuring out different things that they're running out there was a good look by Brunswick but she was just worried about a three second call she popped down ends up in a turnover Carlton again slowly up the floor the loop into Werner Werner stopped on the play good defense by pulling Pullen Loren for three pulling down to the loose ball Boss Crosscourt to Bouchard Bouchard Head Fakes Shipley away goals in the corner Picks up the dribble Now in trouble and is going to get bailed out with a foul call They thought they had a trap on the sideline Well they did They had I mean they closed off the baseline She started dribble out and they got a trap to make a pull out Number one pick up the basketball by three to call on out and alley Higgins back in for the Bulldogs to come inside pull and turn around off the backboard loose ball to the floor.
Guess what Coach Bouchard picks it up.
That's up the play.
That's a great shot when you're able to use that mid range like that.
A beautiful shot.
She keeps probing the lane, probing the lane.
And then at that case, she she had an open look and took it five point lead Lawrence Bulldogs Maddie Werner High rebound Higgins keeps it alive.
Oh and you say it's going to be a Lawrence basketball it's interesting both groups are getting what they want Lawrence is trying to run and get the pace going what's they're getting stuff on offense Brunswick slowing it down they're getting stuff inside UVA Harvey went out for Brunswick she was on the floor for a couple of minutes Emily going back in her Bouchard shot in a good during picks it up I think the directions are quite simple for the dragons you find number 12 get her the ball Let her start the offense Werner Nice athletic shot doesn't go Bouchard took a look finds provost provost drives the lane up and ooh tough navigation to kind of just a little bit of a lean back get away from the defender Tough shot a little bit too much room on the baseline that she can make that I don't know I don't know how you defend that any better though I mean she was fading away on that shot Werner good footwork no better defense but trying to send Bouchard away Bouchard takes a look during picked her up defensively she steps inside, puts up another runner up and then she's gone in the right hand one after three by Bouchard look at this patient to pull back to try to right cut right through great.
No second nothing like Kelsey currently spurs the foul Maddie we're Werner go check out for the Brunswick Dragons might be a little weary Sophia Morin one of the few seniors on the Dragons comes in Bouchard makes the free throw makes it a ten point game with 4 minutes to go here in the first half Carlton calls out the play Sophia Morin drives the lane up and in Great ball fake So welcome to the game.
Yeah, your first touch.
We want you to take a shot.
Higgins open finds Pauline Bouchard head up again.
A three point shot attempt.
No, go my crummy province now with the ball for the Bulldogs Higgins baseline pulling fakes away Puts it up too strong Sam Farrell talks to Kelsey Carlton.
Carlton I think they're probably on the same wavelength.
I just.
You could tell she's smart.
She slows down the pace of what they want to do.
She checks in with their coaches.
She's bringing it up.
Very good floor.
Gentle Sophia Morin passes to her sister back to Shipley.
Shipley puts it into Alexis.
Alexis picks up the dribble, finds Carlton probing.
Is it back to Shipley?
Shipley to Sophia more and Sophia drives no good Nice defensive play.
By coming back comes Hope Bouchard drives on Carlton Carlton kicks it back to Higgins No good weakside rebound Provost puts it up and in Not to that the freshman freshman she sees guards She's making big play spinning counter spin clockwise from the baseline Puts up the four foot It's not that easy move but she makes it looks almost weave from it's going to get called in a holding foul She was trying to stop Moore coming out of the pack also number two Alley Higgins Alley Higgins Okay we'll take that one then call on the three Alexis Morgan checks out for the Dragons.
Maddie Warner back in she receives the inbounds pass comes to Carlton Carlton across to adoring chiefs.
What a great rebound.
Shipley keeps the ball in bounds, but Alley Higgins picks it up for the Bulldogs.
They lead by ten, coming down to the two minute mark.
First half, Bouchard surveys one to go inside to Bree Pullen From it, Allie Higgins hands back a poem, thinks about it, puts it up.
And then I say, traveling I think she should a shot at man.
Well, I think she wanted to but good defensive play by Brunswick just how far above the three point line are you comfortable she looked that I was just far enough.
Yeah, well, maybe not Kelsey Carlton it's the ball to Werner.
Werner great pace nice play Mattie runner up in and I love watching them be patient with the basketball face the hoop jab step to get the defense moving.
Troubles finds Bouchard back to poolroom promos for Bouchard 43 and doesn't touch much you know, between Werner and Shipley, they're so good with the basketball.
They're patient with it.
And you watch them rebound.
I mean, they come out of nowhere to go after.
It's fun watching them to work together and play Carlton inbounds to Werner.
She goes crosscourt to Shipley.
All right idea though.
Pass goes just awry promos down the lane Pull up down low.
Oh, nice play to pull a lot a lot Nice pass through Mattie promos making some big plays right now in the second quarter Carlton leaps it in Werner Werner takes a look cross caught during in the corner had the three momentarily now comes to it's a few more Warren wants help Werner to Shipley Shipley in the more and more and steps around nice shot doesn't go from it down to the rebound and 20 seconds oh she turned to look at Greg Chesley had the ball stolen to go in the corner to throw progress she's blocked and Peter Rodriguez says that's a foul and trouble for go to the line to shoot three I would like to see those last 20 seconds didn't have the best day Oh that's a great shot no foul on how fire throw yeah that's definitely a fire I just couldn't see the other players just down there I know it was fouled two different changing possessions I don't know what happened here you get a good look at somebody you're going to be seeing for the next three years.
She's had a great second quarter she's scored.
She's got people the ball in the right situation to score rebounding the timer, 98.6 seconds, one out of three from the line rebound problem puts it up and she's going line again good clock awareness and great rebound yeah.
Gary Pullen I mean the right place right now you're only dooring personal foul number two during our second foul foul in trouble two and a half seconds off the clock for Lawrence and Madeline troublesome back on the line at this point you just got to focus on first getting the rebound don't worry about the clock yeah.
Just get the rebound first and then see we got after Allie Higgins was signaling be pulling to get back to New Brunswick is going to try to force the play here during the left side puts up the runner no good at the buzzer we've reached the end of the first half of play in the girls class AA state championship game.

Sam Farrell has the Brunswick Dragons out here warming up for the second half to get 4 minutes before we'll get that back underway.
But we've been talking while the championship sponsorship rounds are being awarded because we're playing well, they're trailing at the half.
But a lot of the things that we expected to see from them, particularly from Maddie Warner and Dakota Shipley, and Kelsey Carleton, we're seeing that.
And it's just you know, Lawrence, as you pointed out, is controlling the pace.
Yeah, I think it comes down to I think they've got to try to slow down Lawrence.
And in slowing them down, you're able to get in your defense and able to be a good position to rebound with Lawrence setting the pace they're getting to on twos, three on three shot goes up and they've got space to attack and get the numbers to get the boards.
So you're seeing some offensive boards that are going back into points to free 30 shots for them.
And that's where you seen that gap.
But I'll tell you it would Brunswick if they just got to continue to attack the rim they're doing a great job of getting there.
They're going to finish more than they did I think, in the first half.
But I love when you see them get to the high post with their forwards and have them turn and face and make decisions from there.
That's been pretty successful One of the things I'm also noticing and we're not making a distinction here other than we talked about as coaches, was we want the kids to play all right.
And they said, yeah, that's that's what we want.
We want to let the kids decide the game.
We're not seeing the officials over call the game.
They're they're letting the girls play and the girls are responding in kind at a high level.
Oh, absolutely.
I think, you know, it's, it's good when you just see the girls continue to do what they do.
Well, not focused on other things.
And neither team is focused on rest.
They're focused on their game plan.
And at this point, that's what you want.
It's a global situation.
You want to win Ladies and gentlemen, Spalding supports mean.
We're going to we're going to be back for the third quarter of play here at the Maine Principals Association Invitational Basketball Tournament Championship Game for Classic Girls.

Officer Half-Time stats Karen now field goal percentage not much free throws.
Lawrence Bulldogs has an advantage their turnovers look to be about even but you know what Yeah you got a 13 point lead at the half.
Yeah.
Oh it's got to show up somewhere I think three point shooting percentage.
Yeah.
Brunswick's got to continue to attack the rim, get to the foul line, finish some of those layups and then transition back quicker defensively to try to keep hope outside and not allow her to create open shots for her teammates.
For Lawrence, you keep doing what you're doing.
Well, All right.
We have the slight difference in the starters for the second half for the Brunswick Dragons Smart recognition by her to make sure they weren't going to get a back court.
Bouchard picks up the dribble, finds Higgins, Sophie, and more ends on the floor.
For Brunswick.
Instead of Emily going to start the second half Presto!
By Morin.
Alexis Morin, the younger sister.
That's a good sign.
If you're if you're a coach, you watch and they come right out get a turnover, get a good defensive stop, a good start for Brunswick Matty Werner 54 to know that alley Higgins Well, positioned inside the corner sharply he couldn't do much hope Bouchard drives on Carlton while stolen away Matty Werner finds more and more and goes baseline has a little bit of room, finds her sister Sophia and she gets fouled you're impressed with.
Yeah.
I've seen at least three different Brunswick Dragons ball fakes.
They catch, they face, they set up a ball fake and then they start to number 23.
She had a ball fake.
But originally that led to that pass was a ball fake that she drew baseline.
One of the things I think we saw in the first half was this kid right here just playing with a certain aggression, good aggression, taking the ball to the defender and trying to make something good happen.
I mean, she's a senior.
She wants to lead by example.
This is a good way to do it.
Absolutely.
That's what you want from your seniors to want to come in and make plays like she's doing leaves.
11 Bouchard leaves it short Shipley down to the loose ball for the Dragons Off to Carlton Carlton brings it back out Hands it to Dakota Shipley Maddy Werner Well outside the three point arc Brunswick sets up the offensive play Kelsey calls it out Finds more and more Shipley Shipley up and no good Gets the rebound and gets fouled You know I think originally she thought it was going to go high post But I mean look how low she got it was in number two Ellie Higgins personal foul And that's the advantage that Sam Farrell was talking about but that was a great look by Morant hit her right there Shipley to Werner Werner back to Alexis Moore in for three No Sophie Lawrence weakside rebound dribbles it keeps it in bounds Bouchard with it well so play Bouchard great effort in heck Bouchard is there two or three great plays by both teams there and then she comes away with another great look great pace Alexis Morin wants help finds her sister They go inside a marijuana runner up in Manning Nice little finger role play by Maddie Werner Bouchard again forcing the dribble from the alley Higgins Higgins Dumont Bouchard Bouchard measures backs away Dumont hands it after Higgins had to pull Bouchard steps inside up No good Poulin with the loose ball They go to the floor No Paul Yeah We're going to help ball No we're going to get that raised fist We got a we got a foul call getting us three.
Oh, I've been a block people ask me they go to the floor I was with Dumont.
Personal foul number two follow suit a good grab on the arm.
Replays are astounding.
These guys have to make the call instantaneously.
And there was Dumont with a ten all over Shipley's Carlton flip up an in time Kelsey Caldwell on the ground I like seeing them get her involved, too.
She's a tough, tough point guard tough kid for this team Brunswick within nine Drew Sharp takes a look at Carlton cuts around finds pulling pulling one dribble short Here's those rebound coming out of nowhere to get your hand on Maddie Werner to Alexis Morin for three Lets it fly Maddie provokes town with a loose ball looking for hope Bouchard Bouchard frontcourt spins They find problems problems they did a great job shutting down that transition almost no Werner But measured dribble by Kelsey Carlton puts it ahead to Werner Werner Shipley for three Matty Morrison Down with the ball off the blue Bouchard Bouchard drives on Moore and backs away Boy she's quickly drawn The crowd doesn't see say they hope you want to come in and get three players who are ready to say high Throw those like that hesitation dribble again Thomas Keller had troubles not many not many players right now Use that mid game and those are the right calls.
That's a tough make.
No, she had a lot of contact in there and she ran an electric mark you know call again letting the girls play a little bit here.
Carlton, no Morrison picks up the loose ball for the Bulldogs Obviously they find number 32 Bouchard on the run drops it debris pull and pull him up and in three out of Greg Kessler he wants a full time out and he's upset about something but I'm not sure what his kids are up by 13 again to 49 to go in the third quarter you can't sign off at least I felt like the momentum not it was the pace was changing a little bit you know you had Brunswick came out they had three or four stops in a row they were slowing it down but then you got Lawrence that came back in transition points back to back high school push your Maine season six about to begin six teams from across the state of Maine are competing to see who will be this year's champion.
Bring home that $1,000 prize tune in for the season premiere on Thursday March 23rd at eight right here.

Check it out.
We've got championship basketball running right into the middle of next week.
What a great time of year.
Sam Farrell sends the Dragons out Lawrence is going to set up in the backcourt on defense.
13 point lead clock underway.
Kelsey Carlton finds Shipley Moran drops it back right up and in.
Then I've seen two different options on that.
One was the screen down and they open up to a post and then right there with a cut from the wing.
Great move.
Oh, click mark I'm not sure reporters expected to pass back come the Dragons Trailing by 11 Shipley picks up the dribble finds during Lexis Moran head fakes And we're going to get to a blocking foul on Liz Cromwell And Alexis Moore is going to go to the line I've really enjoyed watching Brunswick drama They just have so many different looks for from the high post and on that they run the high post It's opens up those the drive and they're making great reads right now what I like about that one was she took a look and said I'm going baseline and you're gonna have to stop right here is a double team and she got fouled So she goes the line Hey look, score from the time, stop running.
And you can see they're all making great choices when they receive the ball.
What to do with it given what the defense you know is playing lead is ten Greg Chesley calling a play Hope Bouchard might run it instead takes the shot back comes Carleton on the run wants to find somebody in black does more and lets fly yes but three you know it's not at some point they're going to have one they can shoot it and they've missed a couple and that's what it takes one or two of that to give them some energy trouble for 32 strong three pull a little loose ball that's blocked by Dakota Shipley.
Great defensive play by Shipley.
Here comes the conclusion.
More and calling for the ball and for the one you said it only a few minutes ago.
Wonderful.
Having run in this thing in the second half, they now trail by 5000 or 20 Elizabeth from it personal foul that both teams are here for a reason they're both extreme fast one and they're trying to figure out the game of what's given to them and you don't see Brunswick transition that much, but you saw in that moment we can do it they saw the numbers great play for an end one was calling for that ball give it to you Yeah for three count it six straight points for her like 30 seconds a minute and a half to go third quarter four point game Hoke Bouchard directing traffic from Bouchard in the corner Barrett lobs to great great ball around a Pro Bowls Cromwell's baseline loops it in progress three from the corner Yes That was great ball movement talked about seven months before that shot by a freshman Yeah she's got she's at the point where she's not intimidated about taking that shot Alexa scoring 43 no on the rebound up and in the Dakota Shipley Dakota Shipley I love that shot though she was feeling it She's got a lot of confidence going to make that shot Provost back to great great puts it up make good Morrison going to get fouled on the rebounding action No she fouls in the rebounding action he Brunswick basketball 20 9077 to go out in the morning both you know I team I think so oh I love watching the battles and there's so many players right now that are winning the basketball five point game first game of two tonight fouled with fewer boys game coming in right after this one Shipley loops it to Werner back up to strong hold Bouchard down on the loose ball She has time under 10 seconds hesitation dribble gets knocked off the play and you're going to get a foul call and it looks like it's on Emily going you see how quickly she got off the sideline number zero Emily Durrant personal story involving the one ball that knocked loose and then just just a little hip contact last time out again, just that reminder, broadcast of the Maine State High School basketball championship been made possible by members illnesses going since 1979 convenient thank you to the tens of thousands of people helped make this annual tradition available to fans around the world around the world for free expert care to show your support for basketball on Maine public television.

5.5 seconds to go third quarter five point game Hope Bouchard on the sideline again not a lot of fouls called in this game.
Not a one on one situation for the Lawrence captain gets the ball into Matty Provost to come back from it from it's got to let it go she does she makes shots oh ho hum why don't I just do that.
41 33.
The Lawrence Bulldogs the Northern Regional Championship Champions in class AA lead the Brunswick Dragons.
We have 8 minutes of basketball to go.
Don't go away, folks.

Dawgs basketball for Portland away eight point game.
Alexis Moore and spin move stolen away by comet pro and had the big three to end the third quarter gets in ahead Allie Higgins gets fouled by Matty Werner.
Now the transition glass fans are starting to really get into this Oh they made the call Everybody all night 42 Matty Werner I think the Lawrence fans are into about an hour to go before the kids showed up.
I saw them walking in They're standing ovations welcome them their school song.
I tell you, it gives you goose bumps.
Great community support.
Allie Higgins tell you that the swag 19 the three at the end of the quarter and and one or two shots here Good luck for Lawrence Pullen again with the offensive rebound off the free throw Higgins top of the key 43 no good play Kelsey Carleton.
Alexis Morris calling for the ball well says I think I can take this on Kelsey Coleman love watching those two compete against each other.
What a great take Bouchard reaching foul by Alexis Monk Well you know Karen are you you've coached long enough you want a team of warriors you want to you know at least the majority of the kids on this network.
You want the Paul one to want to be there.
Braveheart.
Yeah.
They're diving on the floor and the ball in the air.
They're going after it, making plays down by 13.
Not to worry.
They get it down by five.
Well, now it's seven.
Plenty of time.
Bouchard promised the blocking foul on Alexis Morin Great Chesley Signal.
Out to Holly Hagan, personal phone number two.
I think you're watching.
You know, Brunswick is trying to extend just a little bit more they're trying to get something on defense, get some steals and maybe get their own transition.
They've shown success a couple of times that they use that Higgins in the corner to cram it for three.
Too strong, weak side to Dumont.
To Bouchard.
Yes, he's boards getting those second chance shots.
It's a great, great luck.
But reading the play Hope, Bouchard just knows where to go.
Yeah, I'm going to be open give me the ball.
I'm good here.
She shoots with such patience.
Lauren runs down the loose ball, comes to Shipley, back to Alexis Morin.
Eats it down low to Kelsey Carlton goes out of bounds into the Alliance Basketball lead back up to nine for the Bulldogs.
La Goalball is on the table.
Oh, boy.
Yes, it is.
Bouchard on the drive.
That's great for Dumont.
Lauren stays at and the half court.
Oh, good.
Reach in and I'm going to call it Hell Ball It'll stay Lawrence Bulldog basketball Good play by Dakota Shipley She explosive ball banked Got it got it Got it There's a whistle UVA Harvey in the game Sophomore for the Dragons down low Great by a call by coach from another open look Another soft shot finds nothing but net lead up for 11 6 minutes to go Werner drives steps inside and Pedro Rodriguez says you know what you got fouled kid I just love what she can do at the high post and whether or not she's getting that shot there But she takes it and all that you have to close out so she has options at the rim she's patient she had a great and while Alex and Mattie Moore looks down one or two manages problem that's four fouls on me why couldn't they called it on you?
Higgins goes out to the applause of her fans and who comes in fashionable.
She's scored 15 points so far in this game.
Oh, I'm not sure if you want her there.
You know, I don't know if Brunswick wants her on the call.
That's 12 points for Maddie Werner played a strong game for the Dragons Lead is 93 Poland pull up jumper too strong There's Werner with another rebound That's six Gives it off to Alexis Warren Harvey comes to Mattie Warren Great This back gives it to Shipley for three Going to be off the rim No good Maddie problem head up takes a look Takes a look at nice play Harvey Got a hand in the path back come the dragons moron after Harvey for three no.
Quote from Bouchard Bouchard turns Carlton down the lane puts up a runner too strong Cuomo's going to battle for the rebound with Kelsey Caldwell.
It's going to be a help all this time.
Dragons know what I love about that leadership right there Hope drives she she gets a look misses it She immediately runs up with her teammates like hey good job good play You're not worried about anything she just did but excited about the next play that her teammates have great leadership coming in the five minute mark nine point game Kelsey Carlton on the dribble moves it to Werner Werner got some help from Shipley She picked up the runner up in Helmet by Maddie with line again for again that little rolling off the fingertip lay up on the right hand side Such a great job fighting into that contact battle with curveballs personal foul I love watching the high post making smart decisions What a great take Matty Morrison back in for the Bulldogs And Elizabeth Dumont checks out free throw No good pull finds chronic trauma somewhat unimpeded Bouchard in the corner the Provos 432 strong but there's coming back to Morrison out high to provoke troubles to Bouchard for three Yeah but before we go to break Chelsea wants another time out off an offensive rebound They get a lot you know you're watching they don't sit there's not a shot they're going to crash the board every time I'm out of AC Raindrops we have found some, you know high school basketball if you are going to make the three point shot like that.
I mean, this kid has been very impressive the whole tournament.
But you take a state championship game, you couldn't ask for much more leadership than what you're getting for Tom.
She's you know, it was interesting.
I was talking to coach.
I'm like, so, you know, what were her stats?
What did she average?
She goes, 12, 12.
And I'm thinking, well, is she's such a gamer.
She does it when she needs to.
And you've seen her this whole tournament playing her bass, given the spark when they need to make in the big shots, making the big plays.
She's just so much fun to watch.
And you could just see she's really leading her team right now.
To make all the plays that they need.
So and has stayed composed she and in fact both point guards, Kelsey Collins, just as impressive on the side, is staying composed and just trying to do anything to help their team.
Yeah, you know, Carlton, they're very different, right, in what they provide for their team.
But Carlton's the same way.
She's she's poised she runs the offense, she calls the sets.
She doesn't never look flustered.
Four and a half minutes to play ten point game.
Kelsey Carlton gets away from her.
Bouchard steps inside and they're going to call it travel on the play.
And Honey Morrison stepped in.
Nice play defensively.
Lawrence back basketball tell you they closed that space off quick because I thought she had the lead when she got by, Bouchard's said, Oh, yeah.
And all of a sudden there was no room Provost has a block by warning that by Morrison.
And which way is he going to go with this?
Oh, the way she handles the madness.
Roberts going to line two.
She too, if you saw she went up, she brought it to a left side and then brought it back to her right in the air to draw that foul.
She was going to get blocked.
She just switched it ties.
She's got some great talent Sophie Marin on the floor for Brunswick Dakota Shipley checks out for a minute.
One for two from the line to Maddie.
Progress again.
We're gonna harp on the thing, but she is a freshman.
Well, she ain't anymore.
She ain't acted like one Alexis Moore comes to Warner, goes back to more and more, and and we're going to call player control towers Moore and turned into promised great just to say you know who leads the team in taking charge is taking those player Garofalo.
No no 20 more and a little from it she took five charges at her last game five so I think she sets up for that now.
So you're watching Brunswick I'm going to play to line up to take beat I know about that coach pro left hand's the ball up a Bouchard Bouchard back the provost thinks about it comes to Allie Higgins no loose ball during oh this is not so good I don't know if it's a cramp Maddie Werner's on the floor holding her lower half lower left leg Sam Farrell that wants to take a look She went to challenge that three point shot It might make it Christian and Tillie down there from Maine Sports Medicine we hope this is not anything terribly serious because again we were talking oh, they need her a warrior.
Oh she's been making some great plays for them.
Shipley is going to come in for her 11 point game 1530 93 39 to go for it looks like they're stretching her out.
So I'm hoping it's just a, a really bad charley horse that she can get back in you don't ever want for a kid to have to tap to sit in these moments.
You know, it may not be an injury, but it is pain.
Oh, yeah.
Again, this is first game of two tonight.
Falmouth and Brewer coming in here and I wouldn't be surprised if everybody stayed to watch that one too, because that's going to be a heck of a lot in that's Maddie Wagner up and walking.
Really good to see her get up and walk that off.
And just in case you were wondering on Sam Carroll.
Yes.
That's a little Brunswick drag and orange from the temple Carroll wants a timeout.
Just a throw Brunswick timeout in that sparks you can gather your kids but also give time for her to get through that.
And we are so grateful.

Maddie Warner back on the floor Dakota Shipping checked in, but because no time went off the clock, she was able to check back out She never really was on the floor.
Werner in the corner.
Dory Want some room promotion?
Give it to her.
Under three and a half to go.
Morin took a look at her sister, hands it back to during Kelsey Carleton wants to find some room.
Alexis Morin for three No hopeful shot yet another rebound ahead Allie Higgins and Kelsey Carlton commits the foul shot on the line to shoot one on one calls on number 12.
Kelsey Baldwin's doing a good job realizing the landscape some alliance at this point.
They started to stall a little bit.
And when you saw Blue Shark it's going to be tough to get all natural.
We want to see them taking her out of the game, trying to double team and get someone else's hands.
But look, any time with you have kids, I can shoot it like that.
You put them on the line.
Dakota Shipley on and sophomore out for the Brunswick Dragons Yeah.
This does not tell the impact of Natalie Higgins on this game.
She's just three point system rebound solid player Mattie Werner flips it How hard is and we go Warren drives baseline in the corner It's Carlton Carlton runs out of room Puts it tomorrow open for three Goes inside the winner Werner turns puts it up and ended Maddie was a big play after big play I love when she gets a touch on the ball Bouchard This is where it gets time to have to go She absorbs the hit from Carlton Gets the ball back to Maddie Provos A little bit of a weave going on here Keep the ball away from the Dragons Bouchard She can find as much room as she needs, but brings the ball back out.
She's just so run away from Free Poland.
And finally there's a blocking foul and hopefully Bouchard goes to the line under 2 minutes to play.
Lawrence fans can see it falls on the counter.
They keep our running.
Not much time off that much confidence with the basketball in her hands.
It's remarkable to watch her play she'll be in the McDonald's Senior All-Star Game, but this is the last time that she's going to be putting on the blue and wait for the Lawrence Bulldogs as a member of this team.
Oh, what a way to go out Mattie Warner on the run comes to during let's fly with a three short Higgins can't get the rebound Shipley up and in a timeout by Sam Farrell one 40 51 game I'm out because at this point you've got to change what you're doing defensively to try to get up on them and whether they're gonna put them on the line quicker try to turn them over they've got to change what they're doing please members of your guard on safety stuff right now Sam Farrell We're looking on the Lawrence pulled up just safety huddle Greg Chesley talking to the kids around on the far but Sam Farrell he's not subbing liberally here He wants to the kids have come out in the third quarter They scored six points in a little under 20 seconds You still got a minute 45 to go here.
Yeah all you gotta do is catch a little bit of a break, change that momentum and things get a little tight around the corner for the warriors pulled off.
Yeah well they have right now that ten point lead.
I'll tell you, Brunswick showed a lot of hard coming in that third quarter and having to really make a big run.
And they did.
And what really got was that three at the end of that quarter that it's you know opened up that lead a little bit more and then Lawrence opened it up with a drive to the rim that got some free throws and they got to extend their lead some more.
Well, Lawrence Brunswick has it in them all season, has shown a propensity to hit a three point shot.
Oh, so they've had some time he looks this from it makes it three at the end of the quarter.
It's not out of the ordinary.
Don't hold Bouchard looking for somebody in White finds Gromit looking to see a double team.
I had to pull him to commit.
Maddie probe comes to Bouchard.
Bouchard keeps away from Emily Doering hands it off to Allie Higgins.
And Higgins is fouled by Dory and it's just hard.
I mean, who do you want to.
They're keeping the ball in the hands of people that can make sure you want to foul at this point.
That's tough.
Allie.
He can shoot one on one Harvey goes out Shipley back in for the Dragons first one.
Good for Allie Higgins.
Talked about how consistent she's played, and she's made some big shots, big free throws.
So we have, as I jinx her yet so we have the record correctly first go ball on the line for Lawrence since 2015 so yes, 2003 column great defensive play seniors coming up big for the Bulldogs reaching foul by Maddie Werner will put her good shot on the line to shoot to balls into the 42 Maddie one our first of all the fourth to follow McKenna I think with a tradition like Lawrence has right they've had so many gold balls through theirs you've had the Sidney Blodget errors yeah but for these girls this is their first no they get to add to it it's got a couple of friends and family members living up in the Fairfield area.
They said this colonel's kid, they have people whispering about blood.
They're saying this kid has the kind of promise without being, you know, physically dominating.
But she has the kind of heads up play and skill level that they think that this this is something that I think I think she's really special don't get me wrong but sweet Roger to Sidney Dragic but it's been a while but she you're right.
I mean she is she's extremely good right now.
I love watching her take control.
Look at this.
What a good splat she is so fast to Shipley on the reach and I believe 56.2 seconds to go to lead is back up well at the half by 13 was an number to the goal to Shipley first overall number two yeah it's happened sharpshooting to the girls in this team who've been told about somebody like Cindy Blodgett but they don't remember oh I know we dating ourselves back well I used to coach at the time came up and said hello to Wallace Bruce Cooper and now Sam Farrell is letting letting his kids know hey you gave it your best.
Kelsey Carlton gets a hug Alexis Moore and yes it hurts crying on both sides but for different reasons Hope Bouchard stands at the line.
And another special story is Mackenzie Nado being able to come in as a senior, spent her a lot her last two years and being able to celebrate a gold ball with all of her friends.
That's checked out joins Allie Higgins.
Bri Pullen Harvey down the lane loses the ball out of bounds is going to be Lawrence basketball 58 43 15 point lead The Lawrence Bulldogs are going to be a state champions in girls class AA tall you take the game score side this was an entertaining game to watch both teams competed so hard Payton called inbound wants some help finds Ashley Shores another freshman I'm caught Oh great job getting that up transitioning into trying to get a basket for this group party for a lot of these kids being younger kids these are some great seconds just to be able to get on this court saying you got to play in this game.
You got the experience of what it felt like to run up and down Harvey looking for somebody in black puts it, nice play to cheer Fortier back home.
Low You know good ball goes out of bounds state runs it basketball 8 seconds to go in this one Lawrence fan standing Lawrence Band standing record shot attempt by Fournier no good for Saturday's 21 Lawrence Bulldogs higher state class AA girls champions for 2022 2023 Congratulations to Greg Chesley and the Bulldogs congratulations to the Brunswick Dragons.
What a great season number one number one in the south the entire season go through the tournament down there and represent the South very very well.
Sam Farrell.
Hey he knew he was coming into a battle here tonight a bonus wasn't shy about it you know it just ended up being a special individual.
It's got to play at their pace just a little bit more.
That made that difference.
But Boy Brunswick staff Sophia Loren, well coached, well rounded, made big plays the whole game.
Just at the end, Lawrence made more.
Maddy Warner 16.4, Lawrence three on a point marijuana 16 points.
The lead of Dragons, Elizabeth Palmer five points she made some great players want dance.
She was fun to watch Madeline proposed 16 points modest outcome Bouchard 25 40 boy when you have your two guards with 16 and 20 what 25 yeah that's a lot of points by two fits well and Higgins chips in her 3378 you know by the time you're done you know it's an impressive display of balance scoring with a lot of obviously the emphasis on those two guards.
But boy this is something I think Greg Chesley and all of these kids are going to savor for the rest of their lives.
What a season so we feel pretty lucky to be able to come watch a game like this and see two teams compete as hard as they did.
And then you get to watch their faces.
It's probably one of my favorite parts you know, it's one thing I've loved about the Civic Center.
These kids get to go up and take their time to get to country.
And I'll tell you it sounds silly, but to get a little piece of nap that you keep for the rest of your life and you talk about it, all right?
It's something special.
I think if I did the math correctly, the seasons 110 days long, really, from the time you open in preseason to the championship game is 110 days.
Wow.
So I did not know that you you kick out every seventh day of that because it's a Sunday.
Yeah.
And six days a week.
Yeah.
4 hours in a day.
You think of the effort that goes into it, the amount of time that you spend with one another.
You talk about team bonding and New Hampshire and that is.
But look how much I mean, look at all the girls on the, on the ladder.
They all want to be on one of the rain the rams to celebrate.
Hope someone's getting some good pictures of that.
Oh, I imagine so.

They're standing by with our Jim Baines Yeah, for some of these players, this is the second state championship this year.
Lawrence also picked up a state Class B championship and field hockey for the players play both basketball and field hockey.
And they are Allie McKenzie, Elizabeth and Hope one by one.
Let's just be honest about this.
I know that field hockey doesn't get live television, but do you have a preference out of which one is better or are they both equally the same here for you?
They're both equally the same.
I mean, basketball is a big part of Lawrence's history, so it feels great putting a trophy in the case.
All right.
Hope you agree.
Before we won over the other.
Does it matter?
It doesn't matter.
They both feel extremely good.
And I think that's about how it describes.
Elizabeth, do you agree?
Do you have a dissenting opinion here?
Oh, no, I agree.
It it feels amazing.
It was incredible.
All right, Mackenzie, you, too.
And you like them both.
Do you have a preference over one or the other?
They're both the best feeling ever.
All right.
Very good here.
Yes.
Let's talk a little bit about the strategy here.
You know that you can run in going against Brunswick pretty well here.
I'm sure the coach talked about controlling the pace an awful lot in this one, correct?
Yeah.
Pushing the ball is something that I think we do best when we're playing.
We get open looks, we get fast breaks.
It definitely it creates our offense.
Getting good defense and pushing the ball is what we do best.
Also, the rebounding from Brady, that was awesome, too, right?
Absolutely.
Let's get bring it here as well.
Here.
Right here.
Yes.
You had an eight rebound effort here tonight, young lady.
Now, I know you're playing with these girls a long time.
Just can you put your thoughts in the words here right now, winning a state championship like this it's amazing.
We've been dreaming of this and we've been told that like us six, like we've been told since we were a little that this was going to happen, like we were going to win.
And it's a dream come true.
What is that like, though?
Maybe being told, hey, it's no problem, you're going to win it, but you don't want to believe it because you don't want to take it for granted, right?
Yeah.
You don't want to take it.
You want to be, like cocky about it, but you want to be confident in ourselves.
And I think we were all confident that, you know, we had it and.
Yeah.
Elizabeth, I saw you nodding there.
Yeah.
You definitely agree.
I'm sure you were told a lot.
You guys are going to win it.
All right.
Yeah, we were I mean, defense was key to this game.
We had to play really tough defense to create our offense.
And communication was a big part of this game and just pushing the ball, man.
They're going to bring Maddy in for one as well here that it can break out.
Now, Maddy, since you're the freshman, you get the tough question.
That's how it works around here.
All right, so the third quarter, that's when Brunson started.
Come back and you a little bit did it feel a little rougher up there in the third or did you just kept playing your game and not worrying about it?
Yeah, they're very physical.
So just playing our game and being strong with the ball was really important for us.
All right.
I'll give you an easy question or two about you being the freshman.
Tell us about what the senior leadership is meant to you over the years.
Oh, it's amazing their support.
And we just we just I love to play with them.
And being being a freshman, joining this team was truly amazing.
And I'm glad I got to experience it with them.
All right.
Very good.
Well, Bulldogs, congratulations.
One happy moment right now.
Tell the camera what it's like to be a state champ.
Yes.
Thank you very much, Jim.
And congratulations to the Lawrence Bulldogs, state champions and girls class basketball for 20, 22.
20, 23.
Karen, they earned it.
Oh, they earned it.
They played hard.
They made the right place at the right moments.
And when Brunswick started the closing off, they had an answer after answer.
So jeez, what a great team to watch so much talent across the board.
They will get the team picture in the center of the court and then the boys game is going to be coming along in about 15 minutes.
Don't go away because we will be having that game for you as well as Falmouth and Brewer are waiting in the wings.
But for this one, there you see a state class AA girls champions, the Lawrence Bulldogs.
For Karen Magnuson.
For Jim Vance.
I'm Dave Cheever.
Thank you for joining us for game number one.
Don't go away.
Game number two.
